“Hungary in Defense and Space: Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Solutions”

Networking event

2026. 02. 26.

Hungary’s place in the space and defense industry was in the focus of our networking.

Jim Bauters, president, welcomed the guests and then gave the floor to Dr. Máté Csehi, senior manager at HypeX Consulting, who briefly presented the upcoming Space and Defense Festival at Bálna Budapest.

In the panel discussion, moderated by Endre Tieger,  Dr. Sándor György Beer, Head of the Department of Space Policy and Space Activities at the Ministry of National Economy and Dr. Dávid Klacsmann, Head of Strategy at HM EI Zrt.  took a forward-looking look at where Europe’s defense and space industries stand today. Speakers agreed that the sector is at a turning point, driven not only by the war in Ukraine but also by rapid technological change, shifting industrial policy, and growing global competition. While momentum is clearly building, questions remain about whether Europe is moving fast enough to match its ambitions.

A key focus was Hungary’s role in this evolving landscape. Panelists saw Hungary as a country with promising strengths and opportunities, but still facing challenges around scale, financing, talent, and integration into international supply chains. Strong cooperation through EU and NATO frameworks was highlighted as essential, alongside a realistic focus on niches where Hungary can add real value.

In closing remarks, it was emphasized that success by 2030 would mean clear strategic choices, deeper international partnerships, and tangible results in capabilities, innovation, and exports.

The professional program concluded with a relaxed buffet dinner.
